Laboratory Grown Diamonds

Chemically, Physically, Optically identical

A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond. Not an imitation or simulant. It has the same chemical composition, physical properties, optical characteristics, and exceptional hardness as a natural diamond. The only difference is its origin: natural diamonds form deep within the Earth over billions of years, while lab-grown diamonds are created in carefully controlled environments using advanced technology.

A well-cut lab-grown diamond has the same brilliance, fire, optical properties, and hardness as a natural diamond. To the eye, the two are indistinguishable. Nor can the lab-grown diamond be identified by a microscope. To differentiate a lab-grown diamond from a natural diamond, technically advanced and specialized equipment is needed.

Lab-grown diamonds are also evaluated according to the same 4Cs — Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight used for natural diamonds.

Your Blondeer diamond, independently documented

Every Blondeer diamond jewelry purchase is accompanied by an IGI, International Gemological Institute, Lab-Grown Diamond certificate, providing independent documentation of the diamond's laboratory-grown origin and its characteristics, including the 4Cs. IGI has graded lab-grown diamonds since 2005 and uses advanced technology and expert gemological analysis to distinguish diamonds.

How they are created

Two principal methods are used to grow diamonds:

HPHT — High Pressure High Temperature
This method recreates the intense pressure and temperature conditions under which natural diamonds form. A natural diamond seed and carbon source are subjected to extreme heat and pressure, allowing the diamond crystal to grow.

CVD — Chemical Vapor Deposition
A natural diamond seed is placed inside a chamber containing carbon-rich gases. Through heat and plasma, carbon atoms are released and deposited onto the seed layer by layer, gradually forming a diamond crystal.

Once grown, both are cut and polished using the same principles as natural diamonds.

A considerate choice

Choosing a lab-grown diamond is a considered choice, for both people and the planet. Because they are created in controlled environments rather than extracted through mining, lab-grown diamonds avoid large-scale excavation and the associated disruption to land, ecosystems, and natural habitats. Their origin also removes the risk of diamonds being connected to the financing of armed conflict or civil war, historically associated with so-called blood diamonds. Growing diamonds in regulated facilities can provide more controlled working environments than those found in certain mining operations. For Blondeer, this offers a modern approach to fine jewelry: exceptional diamonds, created with greater consideration for their impact.

Beautifully made. Scientifically verified. Uniquely yours.

The 4Cs of a Diamond

Every diamond has its own character. The 4Cs: Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat, are the internationally recognized characteristics used to describe and evaluate a diamond’s quality.

Cut

The art of brilliance

Cut refers to how precisely a diamond has been shaped, proportioned, and faceted. It determines how effectively the stone interacts with light, influencing its brilliance, fire, and overall beauty. The proportions and symmetry of the facets are carefully balanced to allow light to reflect beautifully through the stone.

Cut should not be confused with a diamond’s shape. Round, oval, pear, emerald, and marquise, for example, describe the shape of the diamond, while cut refers to the quality of its proportions and craftsmanship.

A beautifully cut diamond can appear remarkably luminous, even when more modest in size.

Color

The beauty of purity

Color describes the degree of color visible within a diamond. The scale ranges from D, which is completely colorless, to Z, showing increasingly noticeable yellow or brown tones.

Diamonds with less visible color allow light to pass through the stone with a crisp, bright appearance. A fascinating feature with lab-grown diamonds is their ability to be colored. Due to being created in a controlled environment, trace elements can be introduced or alter the crystal structure to create a great array of beautiful colors, available at blondeer.

At Blondeer, we select diamonds from the finest color grades, chosen for their exceptional whiteness and brilliance. While colorless diamonds are timeless, color can also become an expression of individuality. The controlled environment in which lab-grown diamonds are created allows for a remarkable array of beautiful hues, from subtle tones to vivid colors. At Blondeer, these colored diamonds open another dimension of possibility, allowing your jewelry to be as distinctive as your vision.

Clarity

The character within

Clarity refers to the natural characteristics found within a diamond, known as inclusions, as well as surface characteristics called blemishes. These are formed during the diamond’s growth and give every stone its individual character.

The clarity scale ranges from Flawless (FL) to Included (I), with higher grades indicating fewer, smaller, and less visible characteristics under magnification.

A diamond does not need to be completely flawless to appear beautifully clear.

At Blondeer, we carefully select diamonds with exceptional clarity, ensuring that their natural characteristics do not compromise their beauty or brilliance.

Carat

The measure of presence

Carat refers to a diamond’s weight, rather than its physical size. One carat equals 200 milligrams.

While carat contributes to a diamond’s presence, it is only one part of its beauty. Two diamonds of the same carat weight can appear remarkably different depending on their shape, cut, color, clarity, and how their weight is distributed.

When a piece features multiple diamonds, the total carat weight refers to the combined weight of all the diamonds, while a center stone may also be listed separately.

At Blondeer, we consider carat weight as part of the complete design, selecting each stone to create the right balance of presence, proportion, and brilliance.
